As September 2nd passed we were happy with the exponential success we’ve seen since our monumental event last year at the Minnesota State Capitol – Ripple Effect.
Substance’s Ripple Effect, which featured Anti-Flag, Michael Franti, Dead Prez, Wookie Foot w/Matisyahu, I Self Devine, and a special appearance by Rage Against the Machine had a huge impact (or “ripple effect”) that is still felt today. Look back at our videos and press to see coverage of it. We have also added a new highlight video from Ripple Effect made by Twin Cities Indy Media below.
At this was a free event, Substance took a large financial loss to make sure this important event happened. As we build, we are still working to pay off our debt even a year later. To support, please click here.
September 2nd also marked Substance’s second birthday. In our short time we’ve seen a lot of success but we are not even close to satisfied. We have a long journey ahead and we appreciate everyone that has supported us thus far.
In the last year, we’ve held a number of very successful events, and even went on our first tour! We launched a revamped website, held police state haunted house on halloween (The American Nightmare, at the Oakshott church), an activism fair at first avenue with Sage Francis (Manifestation), coordinated a rally for HIRE Minnesota with Brother Ali for green jobs, promoted activism at Rothbury, and partnered with a multi-national tour raising awareness about tar sands oil mining with Propagandhi and Strike Anywhere. If you’d like to learn some more about what we’ve been up to, and keep up-to-date on everything else we have planned in the future, send use your contact info via our contact page and we will send you periodic updates about our work.
If you are interested in volunteering and/or interning for Substance, whether you are in the Twin Cities or not, please send us an email to inquire – info@livewithsubstance.org. We bring on interns every term (Fall, Winter, and Summer) as well as volunteers all the time. We are specifically looking for help on business/organization development and accounting.
Stay tuned and thank you all for your support!
